I was recently with some awesome nurse managers and a question was asked that many managers are asking. How do we keep morale up with cutbacks, hikes in insurance, no pay raises, etc. I truly wish I had a profound answer to that question. I don’t.

But, this can help. We all know it’s a totally different economic climate and all businesses will have to do what is best for the bottom line. In every situation there are 2 sides of the coin. Not every business in America is hurting. As always, some are down and some are up. We don’t have to feel like victims. We need to be led by faith in ourselves and not fear.

  • I think that every worker needs to think of themselves as their own corporation.
  • Make sure you are well trained in your skill. Attend all available training, read, study. Learn all you can in your present position.
  • Make yourself so valuable that you are the last person on the planet the company would turn loose of.
  • If you end up without your job, you will be an excellent candidate for another position with another company.
  • Put some RE- in your life. If jobs aren’t available in your field, pick another skill you have and start developing it. RE-INVENT yourself. RESHARPEN, REFOCUS, REDIRECT your energy and RECLAIM your place in the work world. The world will always need good workers.

-- Marianne Williamson
